I guess that most readers in the UK will be aware of the horse meat scandal that’s rearing (ooh, sorry, couldn’t resist!) it’s ugly head right now. For the rest of my international audience, here’s a quick fill-in: basically Tesco and Burger King a few very well known shop chains have been misselling their produce. Burgers (of the value variety) have not been made of beef! In fact they have been using horse meat.
I LOVE horses. To ride. To pet. To wish I owned. I don’t want to eat them. But this scandal and a random trip out to my Mum’s garage tonight reminded me of this postcard that my big brother sent me from France, way back in 1994! I reckon this was written without a hint of irony!
Does this make you think twice about the type of meat products you buy?

I’m heading for the UK on Friday and I’ll be sure NOT to eat any burgers. Thanks for the tip!
PS
I love the postcard and can see you’re not the only family member with a flair for humor

Lol, definitely be careful about what you eat!
Bon voyage, hope you have a wonderful trip. If you’re in the Glasgow area today, be sure to pop in for my hen night!

Go veggie all the way!
February 7th, 2013 at 08:45
He doesn’t get any better!!
February 9th, 2013 at 11:21
You’re not wrong!
February 7th, 2013 at 10:25
ohh! Another reason I don’t eat meat lol
February 9th, 2013 at 11:21
Lol, it’s a good reason!
February 7th, 2013 at 10:57
Little blighter! Hope he was sick! He really is a typical brother though eh?

Lol, this is true, he’s not really changed!

In fairness, the burgers were mainly still beef, but some horsemeat found its way in there. Not that I’m excusing it of course! I would also suggest that horsemeat isn’t the worst thing you might find in some of those value burgers! This is why, when we have burgers at home, I generally make my own, it’s so easy, there’s really no reason not to.

I think people are missing the point about this scandal. In my view it’s the mis-selling that’s the problem. If it’s marketed truthfully, people can make the choice about whether to purchase it. It wouldn’t be me wanting, but I’m sure plenty of people would do!
You’re dead right, home made burgers are the best way to go!
February 7th, 2013 at 12:56
I’m veggie anyway. If you eat meat I can’t understand why you want to be choosy! Love your brother’s remark on the videos. Hope you touched them and still got the pressie.
February 9th, 2013 at 11:29
But aren’t you choosy about what veg you eat…? I think people are missing the point. In my view, the issue is the mis-selling. People should be able to trust what the label says then they can make an informed decision about what they’re buying.
My bro hasn’t changed much over the years, lol, but he does always give good presents. And I was always good at touching his stuff without him knowing. HA HA HA!

I eat any old veg. Emphasis on the old. Past its sell-by date. It’s a wonder I’m not ill. But am feeling a little hoarse. Sorry. Couldn’t resist a terrible nag gag.
February 20th, 2013 at 16:49
Nag gag – LOVE it!
I’ll eat any old veg as well. That’s another problem, isn’t it? People seem to live by and fear sell by dates! People, you will KNOW when your food is off!
February 7th, 2013 at 12:58
I think I am going to hurl. That would be like eating my cat.
February 9th, 2013 at 11:51
It’s just not right.
February 7th, 2013 at 14:31
Oh my gosh, you’re kldding?!?! I’ll circulate this on facebook and see what happens. Here in Texas that would be a major no-no…At least your brother writes.
February 9th, 2013 at 11:59
It’s awful, isn’t it? I think that if people were told what they were being sold then at least they could make an informed decision.
February 8th, 2013 at 06:55
My granddaughter has her own mare and I never could imagine eating her meat!!!
February 9th, 2013 at 11:57
It’s a horrible, horrible thought, isn’t it? I’ve always wanted my own horse, but not on a plate!
February 11th, 2013 at 16:58
Horrible. I haven’t eaten meat since 1999 and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
February 12th, 2013 at 09:08
I think you might be on to something with that… I love fish and I think I would miss chicken and the occasional bacon sandwich… decisions, decisions.
February 13th, 2013 at 02:58
In my defence I think I had actually eaten horse the night before. Delicious, tasty, horse meat! I vaguely remember sheep brains on the menu too, plus the obligatory snails & frogs’ legs. Really unless you are a vegetarian, I think it’s pretty hypocritical to eat one type of meat but be outraged that some people will eat other kinds (eg horse, dog, cat).
PS – “videos”. Wow, how times have changed!

To me the issue (that very few people are addressing) is the fact that it’s blatant mis-selling. If people want to eat horse meat that’s totally fine by me – I ate zebra at Khubla Khan’s (and felt a little bit bad about it) one time. It’s the fact that it’s being advertised as something else. I love Richmond sausages and I’m positive that they include all the shite of the day, lol…
Glad you’re home safely. And yes, videos – hee hee hee!
